Install Ubuntu
Connect Ethernet, a monitor, a keyboard and the prepared USB stick to the computer being installed.
- Turn on the computer and open its Boot Menu using the key shown during startup (often F12, F9 or Esc). Select the USB, preferably its UEFI entry, then Try or Install Ubuntu Server.
- Choose the language and keyboard layout. If offered an installation type, keep Ubuntu Server. Use arrow keys and Tab to move, then Enter to confirm.
- Under Network connections, check that an IP address was assigned and choose Done. Leave the proxy empty unless your network administrator provided one. Keep the default mirror.
- Under storage, select Use an entire disk, choose the internal disk and confirm erasing it. In Profile setup, create a computer name, username and password; keep these credentials.
- You can skip Ubuntu Pro and optional packages. OpenSSH is not required for this procedure at the monitor. Wait for completion and choose Reboot Now; remove the USB when prompted.
- After restarting, enter your Ubuntu username at login, then its password. The password stays invisible while typing. A black text console is expected at this point.
sudo apt update && sudo apt install -y curl ca-certificates
If sudo asks for a password, use the Ubuntu password you just created. No characters or asterisks appear while typing.
